2. The staff were always around cleaning the rooms, saying goodmorning/ goodevening and the front desk were polite and organised, they were always happy to give you help with wifi connection etc.

3. We were happy that the discrepancy was resolved without much of a fight, but we were still disappointed that our first night's sleep was interrupted because neither one of us (new friends) wanted to disturb the other.

This is for you if you are looking for a clean, reasonable base to explore NYC from that won't break the bank and you are happy to negotiate the public transport and go without the nice extra touches you get from a higher class hotel - a reasonable sized and very clean room with private bathroom (although they don't all have a bathroom so careful what you book).
