We upgraded to a
superior
with a King bed and got a corner room with a lanai.

Cons: We upgraded to a
superior
room which was fine but our room (#403) faced a parking lot and, without fail, every morning woke up about 5-5:30am to the sound of garbage trucks or delivery trucks.

'
superior
' is somewhat exalted for what is a simple tourist hotel, but a rather good budget choice in Waikiki.

We were staying in overnight and I wanted to be sure of a good nights sleep so I upgraded to one of the
superior
rooms despite comments here about the tatty rooms and poor condition of the furnishings.

However, upon reading that I looked and saw I could upgrade to a
superior

She offered an upgrade to
superior
room for same price as standard room (
superior
has balcony); she was also excited to hear that I was coming to Honolulu to go on a 'Tiger Cruise' - I was glad to hear that a hotel staff member even knew what a 'Tiger Cruise' was.

It offers incredible value for money, I paid about 80 US per night for a
superior
city view room but got upgraded to a deluxe pcv on the 14th floor which is apparently one of the quiter rooms.
"Great choice for the budget conscious traveller "
