3. The only negative is the nearby Tenderloin district; but just ask the desk staff and they will tell you what streets to avoid.

7. We walked to union square a couple of times during the day and once in the evening (avoiding walking straight through tenderloin district) but i would not advise this after dark .

8. The receptionist was very helpful as soon as we arrived and gave us a map outlining places to avoid so that is exactly what we did and we were fine.

9. However, I wouldnt' recommend walking anywhere - get cabs or the free shuttle bus, that way you avoid the neighbourhood.

10. In fairness the hotel do not try and hide this fact and gave us good directions to walk so that we avoided the worst of the area.
