While the hotel is not exactly what you'd call a charmer, the rooms were very nice, the nearby restaurants in the hotel circle are top-notch (we had a dinner at the hotel's Cafe Japengo, and it was not only super-stylish but the food was fine, whether salmon teriyaki or assorted sushi rolls), and the service was very good for the most part.

6. The restaurants surrounding the hotel are very close, but also pricey- so we drove to the surrounding area for breakfast/lunch/dinner.

7. We asked for reservations on two restaurants which we were told didn't do dinners and when we turned up in person found out they did (but with walk in reservations), concierge should really have known this about popular venues in La Jolla.

8. Also, there is no place in the hotel (again, aside from the bar) that serves dinner, leaving you with the choice of pricy specialty restaurants across the street, or bar food.
