1. You have the Strip at walking distance but not the hugeness of the touristy big hotels.

5. We found the casinos in the cheaper hotels to be more fun (can also recommend circus circus as a fun casino) the bigger places aren't interested unless you're playing for lots of money.

8. The Hooters hotel is a well located hotel, just one block of the Strip near Tropicana, but at a much better rate - the one I got through a 3rd party hotel booking site was just USD 25 night, which is a great rate, even if you add the mandatory USD 10 resort fee.

9. The hotel offers a nice sport bar, the Hooters restaurant with great food, gift shops and sufficient gaming options and of course their one-of-a-kind staff ;-)Especially fun if you go here with friends, but would work well for couples or families as well.
