1. There is free wifi with staying at the hotel but it kind of sucks, very slow and cannot load photos, pretty much could barely check email or Facebook.

3. - We had no issue with internet, wifi, and we were on 5th floor- This isn't close to union square, it was a 10-15 min walk, but there are buses that run the length of that walk, and also buses a block the other way which will take you to FW, pier 39, etc.- It was loud outside, but it is a city, our friends staying at the hotel rex for 150 more a night had the same issue.
