1. Just be careful to check with staff which streets to walk on or to avoid between the hotel and Union Square retail shopping precinct.

5. One tip - take the 'hop on hop off' bus tour that stops right across the street from the hotel - great way to see the city without having to worry too much about wandering into a dubious area.
