2. The concierge knew San Franscisco backwards and could guide us to attractions, clubs etc. We had a car with us and the valet service was really good.

7. Not to be outdone, on my second visit (my secretary assumed I wanted to stay there again - I didn't), the valet pulled my rental car away to park as I was checking in (even though he said he could let it sit for two minutes while I checked in).

8. But when I went to take my own bags out of the car, the same concierge from the first trip came out of the hotel, looked at my wallet, looked at me, looked at my wallet again and nodded to the valet, as if demanding a tip.
