Inside the resort, only place I would recommend is the Orchid Market Place where they sell decent food, including fresh made pizza for reasonable resort-like price (
lunch
for 2 around $35).

The Water's Edge Restaurant was quite expensive for breakfast ($65 for two adults), but the Lagoon Grille and Chinese restaurant seemed more reasonable for
lunch
and dinner.

With the exception of a couple of
lunch
es/snacks, we did not sample the onsite restaurants, so cannot comment, but did order room service one evening and it was extremely good, served promptly and we did not find it to be overpriced.

The Chinese place was only average but our dockside
lunch
place was great (if outrageously priced).

We had a car rental and drove to the nearby town of Kona (disappointingly very touristy keychain/trinket type shops), though we had
lunch
at a great new Thai restaurant.

being in the kohala resort area, be prepared to drive 30 to 45 minutes to any other areas like kona for dinner/
lunch
etc. the staff was very courteous and we encountered no one with an 'attitude'.
