1. We tolerated this and learned a big lesson - just because they have a brand name doesn't mean that quality, service, and amenities are equal all around.

2. So if you are looking for a fairly basic hotel without any special amenities but with a view and special birds, the Aston Waikiki BeachSide is a good bet.

3. We originally thought( as many do) that this was the Aston Waikiki beach hotel which as many amenities and breakfast, this is a common mistake because of the name and the location is about a block away i.e. similar address.

4. Aston took over from Aqua in the last year, and perhaps has calculated that keeping rates low for shoebox-size rooms and 17' tube TVs is a better bet than spending on a renovation and amenities.

5. As for the other amenities of the room, the mini-fridge was so noisy that we had to unplug it (the housekeepers did not even bother to plug it back.

8. It suited us fine as we did not need any of these amenities given that the beach was just across the road and we were surrounded by plenty of great restaurants.

10. The hotel is not 5-star by any means, so you have to expect that you will not get 5-star service or amenities like you would at the Hyatt.
