5. There are lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance, and there is a bus stop in front of the hotel that takes you downtown.

There's a metro stop/circulatory right in front of the hotel which takes you to Union Station via M Street, downtown, china town, Smithsonian Museums and the Mall so I'd strongly suggest you to take that mode of transportation ($1 per ride or $3 for a day pass) rather than a taxi or your car - Saves a lot of money and time.
