3. Staff bent over backwards to be helpful, room was very large for an older hotel and it was so renovated that it was impossible to tell that it was older.

I would probably stay here again if the rate stays competitive ($79/night), but after further research, I think many of the older hotels like the Bristol, have the same plan: renovate and call yourself a 'boutique' hotel, just to set yourself apart from the bigger resort-style hotels like the westin and hyatts.
