3. The room was slightly more than basic, had good TV channel selection, and free WiFi which is not overly robust and OK for checking email or reading news.

4. The original part of this was built in 1953--it was the first hotel in the LAX area, before LAX was LAX--and the 'new' wing in 1955, so the decor is somewhat dated.

5. Although probably the oldest motel for miles, and thus not in brand spanking new condition, we found that it was actually much less tired and shabby than other motels we stayed in on our trip (from a variety of chains).

7. The bottom line is this: it's nothing fancy, it's not new and modern, but if you don't mind a blast from the past straight back to 1980 and you need a comfortable bed and a hot shower in-between flights, you absolutely can't do better than Travelodge LAX.

8. Worked great on our iPhones and was fast enough for a Skype call to new Zealand as I needed to cancel a reservation because we had to come home early due to a volcanic ash cloud.

9. Much to my surprise, the mattress set appeared to be brand new -- I pulled back the sheets and had a look before crashing out completely.
