1. (So that I'm not completely overwhelmingly negative, there were two nice things about the place - proximity to the Market-Frankford line of the subway, and there was decent water pressure in the showers.

Great location, nice sized rooms with a comfy bed and other nice amenities (free internet, HD tv), nice workout room (but I rarely go to the gym so I get excited about having a ipod power dock & tv built into the treadmill), competent but not the most friendly staff (but Philly is like that in general it seems, you can get decent service, it's just rather warily or grudgingly delivered).
