The desk staff tried to be helpful when I informed them of the
broken
outlet, but their only suggestion -- to attempt repairs during our stay -- was absurd, given that we had ample cause to doubt the maintenance staff's competence already.

The bad lamp and clock were plugged into a household extension cord which was (apparently) plugged to a
broken
outlet located beneath an immovable bed pedestal.
