5. The front desk did point out to us when we checked in that the tenderloin area is somewhat nearby and what areas to avoid - we had no problems.

6. avoid however the area of Tenderloin, at about 10 mins walking from the hotel (the area is between Market St and Larkin St to the south, Geary St and Larkin St to the northwest), as you will find there many beggers and many not-so-nice faces :-).

7. Since we went in the winter, we wanted to be warmer without using the heat (to avoid stuffiness).
