1. San Francisco is an expensive city, and I booked the Hotel Rex for a stay in late June because of its good TripAdvisor reviews and because I found an attractive rate.

2. My only real advice would be to book early, as the prices seem to rise quite steeply as the date of stay approaches (we considered extending our stay but it was just too expensive).
