I'm not saying it is far to the closest metro, but there are other similarly-priced hotels in the city that provide a better mix of safer
neighborhood
and metro access.

The surrounding
neighborhood
is decent, especially to the east and Union Station, but I wouldn't recommend walking to the west of the hotel alone after dark.

But there's nothing wrong with the
neighborhood
unless you've never been beyond a gated community before.

Final note: If you are not familiar with DC, this
neighborhood
is deserted at night, except for a late-night convenience/liquor store on the corner frequented by lots of unsavory types.

The only downside is that the
neighborhood
to the west is slightly sketchy, but not so much that it ever worried us.

We were very pleased with the hotel's modern and trendy decor, and felt very safe in the
neighborhood
and surrounding area.

I selected this hotel because I was attending an evening business event only 2 blocks away (had it not been for the event I would have chosen another hotel in a more vibrant
neighborhood
of DC--so tourists be warned: Capitol Hill after dark is quite dull!).
