Yep it's not the place for someone who wants all the modern amenities and frankly be sure to pack light because schlepping heavy luggage up all those stairs is a real drag (though I must say the staff is very happy to assist you with managing it) but it is in a top location, the heart of North Beach with fabulous restaurants & bars within walking distance.

8. What it lacked in amenities of bigger chain hotels it more than made up for in it's North Beach (nowhere near a beach) section of San Francisco.
