1. The Fairmont was lovely but our oceanfront suite there cost considerably more than our room at the Makena and although both places were wonderful in their own way we will return to the Makena when we go back to Maui.

4. My point is, there in not a whole lot of activities for kids-unless you are staying at the mega Grand Wailea with its water slides and mega pools-in this area-so if you are visiting with younger kids who need entertainment, Lahaina and Ka'anapali may be better suited for you.

8. In this single bathroom suite in my latest visit, the balcony appointed with tropical flowering plumage also contained a black plastic rat trap.

9. Ocean swimming is quite good, there is a nice two mile walking/jogging loop around the property and there is a small exercise suite (there is a room with cardio machine, another for resistance training and two full bathrooms - more than I had expected).
