5. I was offered a free pass to the next door YMCA (which was closed during my stay on the fourth of July), to use their very busy indoor pool which closes around 8pm, but that is not the same as being able to relax by my own hotel pool.

Bad news: no hotel shuttle (NCSU is a very big place, we had to get to / from a building that was 5 miles away, and without a hotel shuttle this is difficult; the hotel staff did not know about the free NCSU buses that are a block away -- but they run every 30 min and they have a strange schedule).
