1. We were given no option but to accept, the room under the stairs, no direct light, clean enough but on arriving later that night we found there was no safety chain, it had been broken off.

It wasn`t that we discounted the preceding comments here from other Tripadvisor reviewers or ignored the fact that there`s a conspicuous lack of positive commentary about the Best Western Beachside anywhere we could find; our travel agenda simply permitted only one night in beautiful Santa Barbara, and the Beachside was the only place we could find that would accept a one night reservation on a summer Saturday.
