The second was the Holiday Inn Express on New Bern--clean rooms, but the woman who checked us in exceeded rude and nasty (everyone else seemed pleasant), the area was a bit seedy, and the 'famous' HIExpress 'hot' breakfast during the week was Jimmy Dean Sausage Biscuits and a microwave--as well as the wonderful HI Express cinnamon rolls.

4. Even though I seldom need anything special, I do like to be greeted and have staff be pleasant – that is, look up when you approach, and not act as though asking for a map is a stressful event.
