5. The 'breakfast' -- sub-ordinary pastries and some bananas and apples -- left a lot to be desired, but with plenty of places to get good food nearby, we didn't care.

6. There is a string of inexpensive looking hotels on Lombard just west of Van Ness -- we were happy with our choice of the Buena Vista, not least because it has free parking, very good rates, and an excellent location within walking distance of Fisherman's Wharf and near several key bus routes.
