1. avoid Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach if you don't like seaside tat, there are much nicer areas to see.

3. Are these common? I come from a land of more than our fair share of rainfall so I'm conscientious to generally avoid baths if I'm somewhere where water is scarce - but I confess curiosity got the better of me and I had to try it out.
