The elevators have a plaque in each car describing why they kept the original elevators, which are a bit
creaky
and a bit slow but so worth the extra charm.
"Charming! "

The living room had original wood flooring which was
creaky
but cool and with the modern furniture made it feel like a hip urban loft.
"Beautiful building w/ great service and friendly staff. "

The elevators are a little
creaky
and obviously at least the interiors are original, but there's a sign in the elevator reassuring the passengers that even though the elevators have 'character,' they are inspected on a regular basis, and are actually quite safe.
"A great hotel in downtownn Dallas! "

The way they have preserved the feel of an elegant grand hotel--from the service to the amenities to the
creaky
elevators--really is amazing and makes for a wonderful experience.
"Wonderful stay--between the service, amenities, and old-world charm, I left pampered and feeling downright elegant! "

The only drawback was the slow,
creaky
elevators -- and the staff anticipated that problem with a brass plaque warning us that the elevators were in keeping with the historic nature of the building.
"The friendliest, most helpful hotel staff I've seen in a long time. "

The bad: When the hotel is full (which is often, since they have a deal with the federal govt), you can wait more than 5 minutes for one of the slow,
creaky
, mildly scary elevators, half of which tend to be out of service at any one time.
"Badly in need of an upgrade. "
