My wife and I love to stay at good hotels right in the center of downtown, and the Conrad was perfectly located a very short walk from Michigan Ave (around the corner and up the stairs to upper Michigan), then a short stroll to the river (for an architectural cruise), and a little longer down the avenue to Millenium Park and the weirdly fascinating Bean.

2. Entry a bit weird through nordstom mall - if you have luggage , certainly enter via Nth Rush Street .
