1. Many hotels in NY lack public space but in this case, there is none at all and it feels dark and brooding and somewhat claustrophobic.

2. And on a cerebral level, it was not as pleasing - the view from the room was a typical of NYC frightening in its ugliness courtyard; the room itself was quite small; the lobby was tiny, and the whole place was so crumpy and somewhat claustrophobic.
