1. I tend to think that if hotels need extra money that badly, they should just increase the cost of the room accordingly.

4. Hana Kai is not a bad place, but we were just expecting that it was going to be very nice given everyone's 5-star reviews of it.

5. (Yes, there are also bugs at the Hotel Hana and anywhere in Hana because it's real nature, but that in addition to the VERY BASIC accomodations just led to a bad experience).

We never had any problems with noise or smoke as mentioned in a previous review, but as in the case in many condos in Hawaii, the windows only have shutters (no glass) so they would not close completely and the units are relatively close to each other, so this could be an issue if you had bad neighbors.

7. We mostly went out during the day (to Homoa beach, or to Haleakala Natl Park, etc), so it was just a minor annoyance, but if we had planned on spending the days in the room, it would have been a bad situation.

9. We had a week to spend in Maui on our recent vacation and decided to drive to Hana ( not bad drive, as you might have been told) .
