1. I realize most people would think that the lack of a smoke detector isn't a big deal, but I know it is against the law and a very poor oversight on management's part.

2. Hilo is not know for luxury, but for the money paid, this hotel is very poor value and certainly does not deserve a reputation of 4 ****, or being named as 'best on the island'.
