1. There are several excellent dining options within one mile or a 20-minute walk.

2. This also means that there are few services within walking distance, but there are lots of sidewalks if you want to walk or run.

3. The hotel is about a twenty minute walk (5 minute drive) from the Del Mar Town Center, which has some good dining and shopping options.

4. The good:- Hotel is clean, recently renovated, and rooms are pleasant though not remarkable in any way- HD television (though that's become standard)- Wireless and wired internet in room (12.95 or free for Gold and Platinum members)- Nice lounge area and pool area; seemed to be fairly lively- Very convenient to Interstate 5 (about a minute)- There are a few good restaurants as well as a Vons supermarket 5-7 minutes away by car (turn right when exiting the hotel, go past the interstate and keep going on El Camino Real and you get into a very upscale suburban Torrey Pines/Del Mar area and will see the Vons shopping center)- Very close drive to Del Mar and Solana Beach areas- Fairly convenient (15 minutes) to La JollaThe bad:- There is almost nothing within walking distance - the hotel is in an office park area- There is a bad restaurant (Tio Leos -- something like that) which is within walking distance -- but I tried it and do not recommend it- Hotel restaurant (Arterra) is decent but overpriced; service was also slow and somewhat unprofessional- If you need to go to San Diego (downtown), this isn't the ideal place to stay; count on about 25 minutes or more if there is a traffic problem- Hotel seems to cater to a lot of business conferences; attracts a certain type of person (as one reviewer aptly pointed out, the lounge is full of sleazy, narcissistic business men and gold-digger women -- and perhaps ditto business women and gold-digging men)- Not really the best choice for a romantic getaway or a family vacation, unless you needed/wanted to be close to Del Mar; better suited for business travel- The doors make very loud sound when opening and closing; halls can be loud -- bring ear plugs if you don't want to be awakened early- Parking is ample (covered deck) but expensive -- $20 per night!(no reduction for Marriot reward members).

5. I don't like that the parking garage isn't attached to the hotel because you have to walk completely around the building so I deducted a star.

6. I had no problems finding a space there and it was a quick walk -very short distance to the hotel.

7. A young man walks in the room, climbs on top of the bed with his SHOES ON, and struggles with the alarm for couple of minutes, then rips the alarm out the wall saying, "This is broken.

8. The next morning, I walk up to the desk, and ask a young lady to pass on the message to the manager about the humidifier incident, and I was stunned by her response & attack.
