1. If you need to be closer to downtown, the Marriott Gaslamp District is the best of any Marriott property in all of San Diego, however it is also usually the most expensive.
"My new Marriott choice for San Diego business trips " Read full review on TripAdvisor   3/9/2012 Vote
2. It's more peaceful in the Del Mar/Marriott area with plenty to see and do than in downtown.
"Marriott Del Mar Nice but expensive parking " Read full review on TripAdvisor   5/17/2010 Vote
3. The good:- Hotel is clean, recently renovated, and rooms are pleasant though not remarkable in any way- HD television (though that's become standard)- Wireless and wired internet in room (12.95 or free for Gold and Platinum members)- Nice lounge area and pool area; seemed to be fairly lively- Very convenient to Interstate 5 (about a minute)- There are a few good restaurants as well as a Vons supermarket 5-7 minutes away by car (turn right when exiting the hotel, go past the interstate and keep going on El Camino Real and you get into a very upscale suburban Torrey Pines/Del Mar area and will see the Vons shopping center)- Very close drive to Del Mar and Solana Beach areas- Fairly convenient (15 minutes) to La JollaThe bad:- There is almost nothing within walking distance - the hotel is in an office park area- There is a bad restaurant (Tio Leos -- something like that) which is within walking distance -- but I tried it and do not recommend it- Hotel restaurant (Arterra) is decent but overpriced; service was also slow and somewhat unprofessional- If you need to go to San Diego (downtown), this isn't the ideal place to stay; count on about 25 minutes or more if there is a traffic problem- Hotel seems to cater to a lot of business conferences; attracts a certain type of person (as one reviewer aptly pointed out, the lounge is full of sleazy, narcissistic business men and gold-digger women -- and perhaps ditto business women and gold-digging men)- Not really the best choice for a romantic getaway or a family vacation, unless you needed/wanted to be close to Del Mar; better suited for business travel- The doors make very loud sound when opening and closing; halls can be loud -- bring ear plugs if you don't want to be awakened early- Parking is ample (covered deck) but expensive -- $20 per night!(no reduction for Marriot reward members).
"Decent for business travel, but you will be car-dependent " Read full review on TripAdvisor   4/30/2012 Vote
4. Downtown Del Mar and the ocean is about a 12-15 minute drive.
"Nice property. " Read full review on TripAdvisor   2/27/2012 Vote
5. So if you're looking for a place NOT in the hustle & bustle of downtown but close by, this is a good place to stay.
"Typical large chain hotel, very nice but a little pricey " Read full review on TripAdvisor   11/29/2011 Vote
6. You will need a car to get around as the beach, downtown Del Mar, and other local attractions are not walkable.
"Great weekend rate " Read full review on TripAdvisor   11/8/2011 Vote
7. The location is a little out of the way if you want to be near downtown, but we knew this going in, and it wasn't a problem.
"Staff was superb. " Read full review on TripAdvisor   4/10/2011 Vote
8. It is a good location for north county beaches, and exploring beautiful areas of La Jolla, Solana Beach, Encinitas Beach but far (35 min) from downtown SD.
"Marriott Del Mar Nice but expensive parking " Read full review on TripAdvisor   5/17/2010 Vote
9. Really like the location that was away from the hustle and bustle of downtown.
"Just what we wanted. " Read full review on TripAdvisor   12/17/2009 Vote
10. The parking fee (self-park or valet) at this property is totally unjustified, they have more than enough land and its not as though its any where near downtown or the ocean.
"Great Customer Service but noisy " Read full review on TripAdvisor   7/16/2008 Vote
