1. Mission Valley is centrally located if you want to do all that SD has to offer - it is just lacking in character which is why I like downtown.

7. The Trolley is very convenient, a station right across from the hotel, I recommend taking that downtown rather than hunting for parking in the Gaslamp.

I stayed at the Doubletree Mission Valley for the second time during a business trip, and I can confirm the impression of most part of the other reviewers:- The hotel is conveniently located close to a trolley stop: my wife accompanied me and could not use the car, but she had the opportunity to move by, visiting Old Town and Downtown, in a fast and cheap way, without any need to take a taxi.

10. Downtown hotels may be more comfortable from this point of view, but they are usually more expensive when compared to the hotel overall quality, while in other San Diego areas you definitely need a car to go anywhere.
