1. There's privacy you don't usually find at this price (the bedroom and the living room with its sofabed are separated by a real door), the free breakfast was copious and good, the hotel staff offered helpful restaurant recommendations, and best of all the location is excellent if you want to visit San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, and Legoland (it's no more than a 20-minute drive to each).

2. There is a shopping center a mile or so from the hotel tucked in the lush neighborhoods of Del Mar with a few restaurants (a great BBQ place) and a Von's grocery store.

3. There are no restaurants at the hotel but you can walk across to the hilton garden inn and you have a quite decent restaurant - we tried it one evening - with decent food and prices.

5. We weren't expecting tons of stuff nearby, but a couple of restaurants other than the hotel's deli within walking distance would have been good.
