4. I would recommend staying in the fishermans wharf area more, I stayed at the holiday inn there a couple of years prior and although a bit more expensive it feels alot safer and is alot quieter.

If you are on holiday I would recommend staying slightly further north, out of the central downtown district, as most of the tourist attractions are closer to the Lombard Street/Fisherman's Wharf area which is also has a nicer, more relaxed atmosphere and looks more like the hilly San Francisco most people think of.
