1. Peeling paint and plaster, rotted bathtubs (you can't shower here, it's too disgusting), no battery in smoke detector, bugs in bathroom, no chain lock (missing), paper thin pillows with plastic sheet underneath linen, dirty and ripped carpets.

2. The place is run-down; paint is peeling off the bathtub and the sinks; you do have to learn your way around getting a comfortable temperature in the shower.
