1. Selection won't be the same as with the big guys, but you could save another couple hundred and spend it on a nice dinner or river kayaking excursion.

4. All in all dont expect too much more than 2* and remember the money you save on lodging you can spend in Helicopter ride or Dinner cruise to Napali coast a must see.

My suggestion: in this economy, rent a car, stay at the Kauai Sands, and do all your beaching at Poipu or Kalapaki Beach, head up to the North Shore and visit Princeville, Hanalei Bay and the Hanalei Valley, and use the Sands and the area around Kapaa as your evening destination for dinner, walking around the Coconut Marketplace and sleeping there are an array of very good restaurants at all the hotels around the marketplace.

6. We put some valuables in the lobby safe (the rooms do NOT have safes), but they couldn't fit my laptop and told me to come pick it up when we got back from dinner.

7. When we checked in with the front desk after dinner the night before, the front desk failed to let me know that a tsunami warning had been issued or that alarms would be going off at 6AM, which they defintely knew was going to happen.

8. However, if you are looking to max out your vacation, we recomend visiting the more expensive hotels for dinner and use their beaches.

9. We liked the closeness to the Ocean and each evening we bought 'take out' dinner and ate by the ocean with the waves crashing and the lovely evening breeze.
