1. The Richelieu has been a favorite of ours for many years, first because of its free parking and outdoor pool (when our children were small) and now because of its laid-back charm (the kids don't come anymore).
2. Aside from being a nice, somewhat modestly priced hotel, it has the decor and ambience of the french quarter and comes with free on-site parking which was a big plus.
3. Yes; some of the rooms could use an update; and the decorating style is a tad out of date; but then again - the parking, even if not free anymore is easy and on-site; the pool is a god-send on a hot day, the bar even more so when it is raining; the front-desk staff knows everything there is to know about the city, the location is wonderfully quiet but close to everything that matters, the breakfasts are huge and really good, and honestly - in new orleans; who spends that much time in the room anyway.
4. They have free parking right in back of the hotel so you can park your car and roam the FQ.
5. Free local newspapers were available each day and the hotel has secure on site parking for $20 a day.
6. Another plus is the free parking for guests.
7. Parking on premises - no longer free, however, now $20 a day.
