4. 95 or free for Gold and Platinum members)- nice lounge area and pool area; seemed to be fairly lively- Very convenient to Interstate 5 (about a minute)- There are a few good restaurants as well as a Vons supermarket 5-7 minutes away by car (turn right when exiting the hotel, go past the interstate and keep going on El Camino Real and you get into a very upscale suburban Torrey Pines/Del Mar area and will see the Vons shopping center)- Very close drive to Del Mar and Solana Beach areas- Fairly convenient (15 minutes) to La JollaThe bad:- There is almost nothing within walking distance - the hotel is in an office park area- There is a bad restaurant (Tio Leos -- something like that) which is within walking distance -- but I tried it and do not recommend it- Hotel restaurant (Arterra) is decent but overpriced; service was also slow and somewhat unprofessional- If you need to go to San Diego (downtown), this isn't the ideal place to stay; count on about 25 minutes or more if there is a traffic problem- Hotel seems to cater to a lot of business conferences; attracts a certain type of person (as one reviewer aptly pointed out, the lounge is full of sleazy, narcissistic business men and gold-digger women -- and perhaps ditto business women and gold-digging men)- Not really the best choice for a romantic getaway or a family vacation, unless you needed/wanted to be close to Del Mar; better suited for business travel- The doors make very loud sound when opening and closing; halls can be loud -- bring ear plugs if you don't want to be awakened early- Parking is ample (covered deck) but expensive -- $20 per night.
