There's privacy you don't usually find at this price (the bedroom and the living room with its sofabed are separated by a real door), the free breakfast was copious and good, the hotel staff offered helpful restaurant recommendations, and best of all the location is excellent if you want to visit San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, and Legoland (it's no more than a 20-minute drive to each).
