1. When chains acquire properties, they erect barricades of 800 numbers manned by poorly equipped, poorly trained personnel who seem to only care about delivering the canned script and are not empowered (I'll give them the benefit of the doubt) to actually problem solve and offer customer service -- not pretend customer service, but actual customer service.

2. The people I spoke with along the way thanked me robotic-ly for staying at a Renaissance property over and over, assuring me via an elaborate, prolonged script that my happiness was all they cared about, before they sent me off to yet more Muzak and many, many, many minutes of hold time and dead ends.

6. Also, there is a mini-bar fridge in the rooms, be careful they charge just for opening the fridge, $26.

9. I ended up getting sick on our trip and the staff was very helpful in fiding and getting me to medical care.

10. One of our rooms was not ready until dinner time, but the hotel manager took care of it by giving us access to the VIP Lounge for the whole visit.
