The renovation probably did the best job one can do with such an old building, however, the soundproof is poor in the rooms that I could hear noise coming from all four walls - TV next door to me, the shower running in the room above, chatting in the hallway and worst of all, the hotel is right next to a busy train crossing that the horns will wake you up at 5am EVERY DAY.

8. You have the feeling like the trains goes trough your room, and this lasts nearly all trough the night, every hour the same noise, it`s hard to imagine, how long one train can be, I can tell you very long, so long that the noise maintains nearly till the next train comes along.

10. I do not know if rooms on the other side of the building would be better insulated from the noise, but I highly recommend that you request a room on the beach facing (southeast) side if you choose to stay at the State Street Hotel.
