1. But when I talked to the receptionist (another one by then) about the network being broken, she treated me like a moron, and tried to blame me for not setting it up correctly.

The general state of decoration in the rooms was tatty to say the least: badly painted over peeling wallpaper, old looking carpets, patio doors not closing properly with locks that just about work, bathroom tiles cracked, bath sealant black in places, bathroom tiles broken, bathroom fixtures rusting (see photos), wires badly hidden in rough looking conduit, etc, etc.
