We understand
mistake
s happen but they really should double-check the room number before trying to break down the door in the middle of the night -- or accusing their guests of wrongdoing.

He said the night manager had explained it all to him - had admitted he'd (the night manager) made a
mistake
and assigned the wrong room to the new guest.

blaming this all on us? How about someone in your office made a
mistake
? The day manager was very nice, apologized profusely, and gave us 50% off our stay (which was the right thing to do) before we even had a chance to explain what had happened.
