1. unfortunately there are lot of hotels in this area and getting a cab to pass by takes FOREVER.

2. As far as getting there, we realized there isn't an easy way to reach Fishermans Wharf from either airport (Oakland or SFO), unless you don't mind dragging your luggage from BART to streetcar (and streetcars don't always run on schedule as we unfortunately learned on a rainy, cold day).
