1. Originally planning to stay at a luxury hotel on the beach, the cost of the new HVAC systems required us to cut back on the hotel.

4. Price is expensive in spite of the contract rate ($140/night) and parking costs extra ($9/day) but considering hotel's prime location and how popular Santa Barbara is with tourists, I suppose the value is OK.

7. Tips: try to be in town when the farmers' market is on (State St), it's brilliant; download details of the red tile walk and walk it yourself for free; don't miss out the courthouse as it is stunning (queues for the lift to the roof can build up at peak times tho); the tourist bus (24 hour tickets) tour is well worth doing, plus you'll make friends as Americans are so friendly; avoid the British Fish & chip shop at all costs - poor food and bad value (they don't have the oil hot enough so the batter is soggy and the fish is small, like a Bird's Eye frozen filet - I hope the Americans don't think that is typical of our national dish!); the ice cream shops are great; do walk the pier.
"Good hotel - very convenient location " Read full review on TripAdvisor   10/28/2011 Vote
