5. The Comfort Inn, as others have noted, is really a mile or so south of Silver Lake proper, but you can be in the heart of that wonderful neighborhood in minutes.

7. Don't be put off by the external appearance: the hotel is on the second and third floors of a somewhat rundown-looking small retail plaza, and the reception desk is behind thick plexiglass of the type you might normally associate with a liquor store in a sketchy neighborhood.

We ate the breakfast offered only twice in the six days we were there (small eating area, not much choice), but the neighborhood offered several choices within a few blocks walking distance and the air freshener or cleaning products used in the room, while not offensive, were too strongly scented and took a week of airing my suitcase after to get rid of the smell.
