4. could be matched, but my expectations were exceeded with the vibrance of the meatpacking district right outside our doorstep, some of the tastiest summertime cocktails flowing on the roofdeck with remarkable river and city views, and our rooms (between our group we had 3) were impeccable.

5. Prank calls to our room in the middle of the night, high heels from the floor above, loud music at all hours, absurdly pretentious staff, smelly corridors, wires hanging from the ceiling, view over a rubbish strewn vacant lot.

6. We tried to have a look at the pool early on Sunday morning and the staff there were surly and rude - and for some bizarre reason barked at me aggressively when I tried to take a photo of the view from the roof.
