1. Have you ever left a load in the washer a little too long and by the time you get to it it has that odor? Almost mold but not quite? That's what the bathroom towels smelled like.

2. Specifically, the mattresses feel hard and old, the pillows essentially flatten to the mattress when you put your head on them, but worst of all the sheets feel like sandpaper.

4. The bathroom was well done and feels more like a bathroom at home rather than at a hotel -- the finishes were of a very nice quality -- a gorgeous stand-alone vanity, ample shelving for storing our toiletries and beautiful tile work.

5. The room was a bit more than we would have liked to pay in general, but Santa Barbara is a relatively pricey area to stay in and we didn't mind the price too much.

9. So, as for the pluses: pretty much across the street from the beach so great for morning jobs, parking is free and ample and you don't need to give your keys (ie, no valent take your car so no annoying waiting), you can walk to get coffee and bagels at the strip mall 10min walk away if you don't feel like getting in the car, and free WIFI.

10. My husband and I stayed here in February for a couple of days and really liked the couple at the front desk, the rooms and the proximity to the beach and state street shops, restaurants and movie theatres.
