1. Renting a car and all the activities are very expensive on Lanai so we skipped those and the best thing in Lanai was seeing spinner dolphins (it was a totally huge herd of them.

3. Our only quibble: With the huge lawn and tons of shade trees, it would have been nice to have some comfortable chairs & tables & hammocks out so you could relax somewhere other then your room.
